New RFID Cashless Payment System to Provide Faster Throughput and Shorter Lines

San Fernando, CA (January 25, 2005) – Precision Dynamics Corporation (PDC), a global leader in automatic wristband identification solutions, will provide the Jacksonville Suns and the Baseball grounds of Jacksonville with RFID (radio frequency identification) solutions for age verification and cashless payment during the Times-Union SuperFest, an official Super Bowl XXXIX event, taking place February 3-6 in Jacksonville, Fl.
To prevent and control underage drinking during SuperFest, the Jacksonville Suns will implement PDC’s AgeBand® Electronic Age/ID Verification System along with Smart AgeBand Wristbands. Also, PDC’s cashless payment solution consisting of Smart Kiosks, Smart Band® RFID Wristbands, and Smart Readers, will be used to provide fast and convenient cashless point-of-sales (POS) during the event.
AgeBand utilizes special software to verify the authenticity of state issued drivers licenses or ID credentials. The software is developed in conjunction with the credential testing lab for the States Departments of Motor Vehicles. The system scans the magnetic stripe and 2-dimensional bar code of the credential and prints the patron’s name, “Age ID Verified 21,” and other pertinent information on a Smart AgeBand Wristband, which contains an RFID chip. The non-transferable wristband is administered to the patron at admissions.
“We use AgeBand at the stadium during baseball season and it has been a great enhancement to our operations,” said Peter Bragan, Jr., General Manager for the Jacksonville Suns. “During SuperFest we hope to discourage underage drinking and encourage a safe Super Bowl party using AgeBand. We also look forward to implementing a new cashless RFID system during the event to improve patrons’ overall experience and streamline operations.”
PDC’s wireless cashless payment solution helps increase throughput at concession stands and reduce long lines that often deter patrons from making additional purchases. Smart Kiosk is a free-standing booth with touch-screen that allows patrons to load money usin g c ash, credit or debit cards onto Smart Band RFID Wristbands. Smart Readers replace expensive stand-alone POS systems and readers and provide convenient wireless cashless POS.
“Smart Kiosk is a money loading device that works similar to ATM machines, but instead, funds are transferred onto patrons’ RFID wristbands,” comments Victor LaRosa , PDC RFID and Age ID Manager. “It is part of the latest cashless payment technology which is practical for large-scale events like SuperFest where loose cash can easily get lost or stolen.”
An estimated 40,000 patrons are expected at SuperFest, a super-sized street festival which takes place in downtown Jacksonville along the St. Johns River . SuperFest is produced compliments of the City of Jacksonville , the Jacksonville Super Bowl Host Committee, and the Florida Times-Union. Event sponsors include Winn-Dixie and Coors Lite.
