Benefits of Environmentally Sound Business Practices to be Presented at Precision Dynamics Corporation
Los Angeles Valley College Business Success Academy Teams with Precision Dynamics’ Green Team for seminar program
San Fernando, CA (September 28, 2009) – The seminar “Green Goes to Work: How Your Business can Benefit from Green Practices” will be held at Precision Dynamics Corporation in San Fernando on October 1 from 8:00am – 10:30am. The event was planned in conjunction with the office of Los Angeles City Councilmember Richard Alarcón to offer a tool for businesses and organizations seeking to benchmark and improve their environmental performance. A representative from Mr. Alarcón’s office will make an opening proclamation at the event.
Sponsored by Precision Dynamics and Los Angeles Valley College, seminar topics will include strategies for starting a company Green Team; benefits of converting to environmentally sound practices; and training services to achieve Green Business Certification in Los Angeles.
Chris Stetson, Lead for Precision Dynamics’ Green Team, said that the measures outlined in the program will provide businesses with a detailed approach in managing their solid waste and recycling, energy and water conservation, and pollution prevention. “The seminar not only serves to enhance operational efficiencies and increase companies’ bottom lines, but also to help produce leaders and champions for the environment. I think that business representatives will be pleasantly surprised at the savings that can be achieved,” said Stetson.
Councilmember Alarcón said, “Precision Dynamics has taken on the green initiative challenge and is helping to lead the charge when it comes to environmentally responsible practices. Education is key to helping local businesses and organizations make the right decisions to establish sustainable systems. We applaud Precision Dynamics and LA Valley College’s efforts to help in this effort for the Los Angeles community.”
Roberto Gutierrez, Program Manager at Los Angeles Valley College, said, “New environmental initiatives are expected to spur tremendous job growth in California. It’s important to not only make employers aware of the benefits of the new green economy, but give employees and those seeking new jobs in this area the skills to take their place in it and make a difference.”
Precision Dynamics started its Green Team initiative in 2007 to reduce the company’s environmental impact. Since that time, the company has implemented a range of initiatives from employee education and involvement to energy and resource reduction. Some of these include paper reduction and recycling, a green purchasing strategy, motion detecting lighting in conference rooms, waterless urinals, and a car pooling program. As a result, the company has averaged an annual savings of nearly $10,000 per year. As part of its benchmarking process, Stetson said that the company has reduced CO2 emissions by 10,000 lbs., while saving 40,000 gallons of water and 110 trees.
