PDC Smart Band® RFID Wristbands Take the Stage at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Festivals
San Fernando, CA (March 16, 2005) – Precision Dynamics Corporation (PDC), a global leader in automatic wristband identification, will supply South by Southwest (SXSW) with its Smart Band® RFID Wristband System during the world-renowned SXSW Music, Film and Interactive Festivals, taking place March 11 – 20 in Austin, TX. SXSW is using PDC RFID solutions for the second consecutive year to streamline admissions and operations, and enhance patrons’ overall experience at the event.
During past SXSW events counterfeit wristbands were sold with a total face value of as much as $500,000. Last year SXSW implemented PDC RFID Wristbands to help eliminate this from occurring and no counterfeit wristbands were confiscated.
“It’s very difficult, nearly impossible, to duplicate an RFID chip and place it on a wristband,” states Victor LaRosa, PDC RFID Manager. “The RFID readers used at the event are programmed to detect fraudulent RFID wristbands eliminating loss of revenue and unexpected over-crowding due to counterfeit sales.”
This year aside from discouraging counterfeits, the RFID wristbands will have added functionality to help enhance operations and patrons’ overall experience at the event. The admission wristbands will track attendance, patron flow at bars, and help manage event staff.
Smart Band® Wristbands revolve around a tiny, flat RFID chip, sealed in a non-transferable plastic wristband that uses customized software to store and transfer data which is read by RFID readers. The RFID chips used at SXSW contain serial numbers that are used to verify the authenticity of each band.
Approximately 23,000 RFID wristbands, 10,000 RFID badges, and 30 RFID readers will be used at the event. Visit www.sxsw.com for event information. For more information on PDC RFID solutions, please call 866.403.6526 or visit www.pdc-rfid.com.
With nearly 50 years of experience, PDC is the global leader and pacesetter in the development of automatic identification wristband systems. PDC introduced the first patient bar code ID wristband in 1984, radio frequency identification (RFID) wristbands in 2000, and the AgeBand® Electronic Age/ID Verification System in 2004. PDC's quality system meets the requirements of the International Standards Organization ISO-9001 certification, representing the finest in product service, design, and manufacturing.
