San Fernando, CA (January 21, 2005) – Lulu’s Club Mardi Gras (Washington D.C.) will use Precision Dynamics Corporation’s (PDC) AgeBand Electronic Age/ID Verification System during their official presidential inauguration party to identify and verify patrons’ age. The AgeBand system will help eliminate instances of underage drinking and subsequent problems that could occur.
According to a study by The National Academies, underage drinking costs the nation an estimated $53 billion annually in losses stemming from traffic fatalities, violent crime, and other behaviors that threaten the well-being of America ’s youth. It is imperative that alcohol retailers take the necessary precautions to prevent underage drinking—such as adequately verifying the credentials used for identification—to help decrease instances of illegal alcohol consumption in public places.
“AgeBand is a great deterrent to those who have fake IDs—it makes them think twice before using one,” said Al Chadsey, Lulu’s Club Owner. “We’ve detected many fake IDs since using AgeBand, and the police and the ABC board [Alcohol & Beverage Control] like that we’ve implemented this system.”
AgeBand utilizes special software to verify the authenticity of state issued drivers licenses or ID credentials. The software is developed in conjunction with the credential testing lab for States’ Departments of Motor Vehicles. The system scans the magnetic stripe and 2-dimensional bar code of the credential and prints the patron’s name, “Age ID Verified 21,” and other pertinent information on an AgeBand Wristband. The non-transferable wristband is administered to patrons at admissions.
Blackie’s estimates 2,000 attendees at the inauguration party.
